About Pre-1 (Kachi) Punjab textbooks

Pre-1, called Kachi in most Punjab schools and also known as KG or nursery, is the year before Class 1. Its books are published by the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB), Lahore, which has been part of the Punjab Education, Curriculum, Training and Assessment Authority (PECTAA) since June 2024. Older prints carry the PCTB name, and newer ones may carry PECTAA’s.

Books in this class

• Pre-1 Urdu Primer: the main Urdu book, starting with letter shapes and sounds.
• Pre-1 English Primer: the alphabet, first words and simple picture-led activities.
• Pre-1 Maths Primer: numbers, counting and basic shapes.
• Neela Qaida: a supplementary reader (SRM) for extra letter practice alongside the Urdu and English primers.

The three primers were written for the Single National Curriculum (SNC). Each book page has an online reader, a download link and tips for helping young children at home.

Which edition should you use?

Schools sometimes keep an older edition for a year or two, so check the book list your school gives you. If a book is missing or outdated, let us know through the contact page.
