What the book is about
Class 1 Islamiat introduces the basics of the faith in short, simple lessons with pictures: belief in Allah, the Kalimah, everyday duas, the first steps of worship, and stories from the life of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him). Lessons also stress good manners at home and at school, such as greeting others, honesty and cleanliness.
The book is meant to be learned with an adult. Many lessons end with a short activity, a dua to memorise or a question to talk about together.
Helping your child at home
- One dua at a time. Practise it at the moment it is used, for example before eating or sleeping, so it sticks.
- Tell the stories in your own words. Children remember a story they have heard from a parent better than one they have only read.
- Link lessons to daily life. When a lesson is about cleanliness or kindness, point out a real example the same day.
Islamiat or Akhlaqiat?
Under the SNC, Muslim students study Islamiat, while non-Muslim students can study Akhlaqiat (Ethics) instead. For Quran reading, Class 1 also has a separate Tajweedi Qaida.
