From Class 1 to Class 2
By the end of Class 1 most children can join letters and read short words and sentences. Class 2 builds on that with longer reading passages: stories, poems and short lessons about family, school, good habits and the world around the child. The aim shifts from decoding words to understanding what is read.
Writing grows too. Instead of copying single words, children start answering simple questions in a sentence of their own, filling in blanks and putting words in the right order.
Helping your child at home
- Ask about the story. After a lesson, ask who was in it and what happened. Talking first makes the written answers much easier.
- Keep a word notebook. Write down new words from each lesson with a small drawing or a sentence using them.
- Read aloud for fluency. Let your child read one page a day to you without rushing, so reading becomes smooth instead of word by word.
- Watch the dots and joins. Mistakes with nuqtas and joined letter shapes are common at this age; correct them gently while reading.
Other Class 2 books
Class 2 in Punjab also uses English, Maths, Islamiat, Akhlaqiat and General Knowledge. All of them are on the Class 2 Punjab textbooks page. The book before this one is Class 1 Urdu, and the next is Class 3 Urdu.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the SNC edition?
Yes. A pre-SNC Class 2 Urdu book from PCTB also exists, so if your child’s book looks different, compare the cover with your school’s book list.

Yes. Urdu is a compulsory subject, and public schools in Punjab use this one Urdu book for both mediums.
What is PECTAA?
