What Class 1 Maths covers
Pre-1 Maths is mostly about recognising numbers and counting objects. Class 1 turns that into real arithmetic. Children work with larger numbers, learn place value (ones and tens), and start adding and subtracting, first with pictures and objects and then with written sums. The book also brings in everyday ideas such as comparing lengths and weights, simple shapes, money and telling time.
Because the SNC book teaches through pictures and activities, children who only memorise answers can get stuck. Counting real things alongside each exercise makes a big difference.
Helping your child at home
- Use objects. Beads, spoons or pebbles make adding and taking away visible.
- Bundle in tens. Ten sticks tied with a rubber band show what “one ten” means far better than a definition.
- Do maths while shopping. Coins and small purchases are perfect practice for the money lessons.
- Read the clock together. Ask the time on the hour a few times a day.

Frequently asked questions
Is there an Urdu medium version?
Before the SNC, PCTB printed Class 1 Mathematics in separate English medium and Urdu medium books. If your school still uses one of those older books, check the cover against your book list.
Is this the latest edition?
This is the SNC edition of the book. Schools sometimes keep an older print for a year or two, so your school’s book list is the final word.
What is PECTAA?
PECTAA is the Punjab Education, Curriculum, Training and Assessment Authority, set up by the Punjab government in June 2024 by merging the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board, the Quaid-e-Azam Academy for Educational Development (QAED) and the Punjab Examination Commission.
